Seventeen California College of the Arts students exhibit new work at Oakland's Hatch Gallery, offering an oasis for thought away from the troubles of the national deficit. Curated by instructor Michele Pred, the exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture, illustration, and metal arts. "Because of the Economy" is part of an ongoing course which introduces students to the professional practices necessary to participate in the art world. Today's emerging artists need every tool available in order to become productive members in their fields.

Andrea Bozym, Christine Cho, Katie Dilley, Katie Edwards, Philip Frank, Peggy Frykholm, Dana Isken, Clementine Hackett, Sofia Hernandez, Max Hurwitz, Elena Jonynaite, Jane Kim, Kate Knuttel, Rachael Nyhus, Beret Olsen, Marie Sabillo, and Maria Vaza-Kaczynski.
