Every human being has experienced some sort of debilitation at some point in their lives, and all are at inevitable risk of infection every day, until the final day. The business of health, medicine, and chronic illness continues to hustle its way to the forefront of humanity. The impact and prevalence of physical, social, and mental suffering continues to infect the populous and grow dramatically with time.

True to the assorted and often contradictory nature of heath care, the 13 artists in SICK approach their work from a multitude of conceptual viewpoints, such as how illness is received and expelled from the body, the effect of medication and procedures on patients by doctors, the confusion of health insurance bureaucracy, the emotional imprint of hospitalization, the psychological chaos of mental health, sympathy and empathetic illnesses, and the anticipation of recovery or death. As diverse as the concept, the artwork presents itself in an array of media, from traditional drawing, painting, and sculpture to audio/visual installation and video.
