To commemorate its 40th anniversary the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery presents an exhibition of ephemera from its archives. Bringing together photographs, posters, announcements, and other related documentation, as well as works of art from select shows, the exhibition highlights significant moments from the gallery’s 40-year history. From its beginnings in a renovated warehouse on Grove Street to its current locations in the Veterans Building, City Hall and 155 Grove Street, San Francisco’s first municipal art gallery has been dedicated to showing art from emerging and mid-career by Bay Area artists. And with over 350 exhibitions to date, the history of the space mirrors the vitality of art production in the Bay Area.
