norah hoover, liquor bag dress (Click image to view larger)
silver scale is a series of sound-making costumes made out of materials found in the Mission District. Paper, plastic, found clothing and fabric were torn apart and “reorganized” into dresses that become explosions of sound, light and texture. The photographs documenting the costumes call to mind turn-of-the-century erotic postcards, film and snapshots, while the costumes’ neutral colors, dense shapes and tightly arranged details mimic the agitating grain of a playing film reel. The show will feature audio recordings, black and white large format photography, and super 8 projections.
