About

What is this?

Well, the short answer is a calendar of local arts events.

Then, where's the calendar?

You can start by clicking any date you see to enter the daily events list view, but that's just the starting point. For each event on the site we save some basic info about the people and the places related to it. As more events are created, relationships begin to form by linking to more people and places and now we have a network of associated bits that can be fun and enlightening to explore. The homepage gives you a snapshot of what's happening right now - both on the site and out in your local art scene.

There are plenty of good local event calendars out there, why another?

Well, a few reasons. I thought I might be able to make something a little bit easier to use and something a little more interesting to explore. By following the links between people, place and events, you might end up finding something you didn't know about before. I also wanted to provide more paths to access information that I found lacking in other places - starting with various day views, alphabetical listings, a map of locations and events, a search capability and RSS feeds.

How can I add a new event to the site?

Currently there is no way for you to add new items directly to the site, but you can suggest something for consideration over on the Suggest page. This may change in the future, but for the time being I'd like to keep things focused and relevant so all public suggestions are manually moderated for accuracy and appropriateness.

What should I do if I see something that is inaccurate or I want removed from the site?

Right now, on every event, place and person page there is a "flag" button in the toolbar. You can click that and optionally leave a note explaining why you flagged it. Otherwise, you can always use the form on the Contact page to send me a note and I'll do my best to address the issue.

Is that it?

Hardly. This is just a start. As more data is collected, more events added and more relationships created - the more interesting things will get. I have a lot of ideas for even more ways to link and explore items and events that I can hopefully roll out in stages over time. If you have a suggestion to make the site better or think of something you would find useful, head on over to the Contact page and send a note.

Who is behind this?

My name is Lucas and I am currently responsible for all aspects of the site - front to back, top to bottom. This is an extra-curricular project to help keep my web development skills up as well as provide a (hopefully) helpful service to my friends, most of whom are artists or involved in the local arts community. I might solicit help down the road if the situation warrants it and I would like to open things up for easier collaboration with the community, but one step at a time. Thanks for the patience!
